Colors! App Reviews

nice and quick!

this is the best painting app for the small apple devices. all functions are only one tap away. if you used the ds for painting with colors, you will love this.

Awesome

Its reallyy good only if you could delete saved photos  It would be also great if you could write the date of every painting. Otherwise, this app is awesome

digital canvas

I do have those wacom tablets so Im used to this format. though I was hoping for adjustable canvas size

Awsome app!!! <3

Okay, I absolutly love this app, I use it like 100 times a day! But, if Im working on a picture, and close the app and then come back, half of the picture is gone, half goes black. I really like this app but maybe an update is in order... But overall I love it! Thanks!

"Almost" perfect

Ive been using this app for long enough to see the brilliant potential, but also the limitations. The best feature by far isnt even a drawing feature - its the gallery. Not only can you see (and rate) other artists work, you can actually run a playback and watch it being created stroke by stroke. This is pure genius!! It should be a standard feature of every art app out there! A true masterstroke! Its like having a hundred art lessons in your pocket! However, its also available on the website (through Java) and in the lite version for free, so its not really a selling feature for the full version. Still, Id gladly pay double for the full version just to show my appreciation for the sheer brilliance of this one feature alone. The next best thing is that its so simple and fun to use! Its got a lovingly shallow learning curve, yet its versatile enough to be taken seriously (youll be up to speed faster than it took you to read this sentence). Dont be fooled by the simplicity though, you really can create some beautiful art with this thing! The main limitation of the app is the infuriating inaccuracy, and lack of sensitivity of the thing. While thats true of all drawing apps on these devices, other apps seem to do a better job of "faking it" with liberal zoom etc. Colors! was initially designed for the Nintendo DS with its pressure sensitive screen and stylus input, and after seeing whats been created by others on the DS, I am completely convinced that its the perfect way to make art on the go. Unfortunately, this review is for the iPhone/iPod version, and its not nearly as brilliant on these units. To make up for the lack of a pressure sensitive screen, the designers have come up with a novel "tilt" feature: You mimic pressure sensitivity by tilting your device as you draw. Its really cool, fun to use, and its better than not addressing the issue at all, but its also quite difficult to get predictable results. Theyve tried to address the inherent inaccuracy of drawing with a finger, but the adjustable offset cursor and meager 3 levels of zoom do little to make up for it. If youre serious about using this thing to create art, you owe it to yourself to get a iPod stylus to go with it - its not perfect, but it will save you a lot of agravation! Having said that, if you dont do detailed drawings, this wont even be an issue for you. Another possible pitfall (depending how you like to work) is the lack of layers. You only get one layer per drawing (just like a real canvas/paper). If youre into pixel-perfect perfection, youll be doing a LOT of touch-ups that you wouldnt have to with multiple layers. On the other hand, if you happily leave your work "in the raw", you probably wont even notice. The only REAL blunder made by this app is the woefuly inadequate 19 save slot limit. Those 19 slots fill up REALLY quickly! If you like to do sketches to finish on a rainy day, or like to work on multiple drawings at once, youll really feel the pain here. You cant even export to the Camera Roll and import later, because there is no import! To put it bluntly, there is no work-around. When it comes time to save your 20th drawing, youll have to over-write one of your older ones. Given the amount of memory that even the cheapest of these devices has, this is an inexcusable limitation. The fact that the ONLY difference between the full and lite version is the ability to save/export just rubs salt into the wound. Sorry Colors! you just earned a lost star for that one. Overall, I really like this app. Its a simple, fun, and quite capable little drawing app. Try the lite version first, and if you like it (or to show your appreciation for the gallery/playback feature), buy the full version. Better yet, get a Nintendo DS and see what its really capable of!

Problem !

K I love this app so much . One of my favorite . But there is one big problem !! . Every time I click playback to watch how it was made , it instead says " this was painted on a different version of colors! and cannot be replayed at this time" , and my question is .. What other version is there !? Please help me !

Ive been waiting for this update!

Im so happy they finally updated this. The fact that my favorite app is now for ipad too makes me smile. This is really my favorite app, its been a part of my life for a long time and I dont know what it would be like without it... To be reunited with it... I just... Im getting a little teary here. I feel complete now that my ipad can use this app properly. Its perfect for any artist. Simple tools, yet great enough to create any masterpiece. Now with layers, too. I would highly recommend this app to anyone who draws... Maybe Im a little biased in saying its the best, but I truly love it. I feel like this app is a part of my soul and my life. Its really important to me. I hadnt used it in a while before this update... Now its back, and I know Ill be drawing on it again tomorrow morning! I missed you, Colors! Five stars, easily.

Better but line quality is still jagged

You really need to fix your line quality when drawing quickly as the curves are faceted. Would be great if it would just draw a smooth curve. See how Paper by 53 works, that app has great line code.

Awesome!

This app is amazing and I love how you can stay connected with the world and explore othwr paintinfs. I also love the feature how you can draw in here. its already 1 year since the last update, please work on skmething new and major. I dont want to getbored so please work on somethinf new.

I have this on my 3ds too

Theres a problem with the brush feature i cant select black right away i have to paint in a colour first before selecting black and its annoying because when i hit clear canvas i have to select the colour again before being able to use black So i colour in green to be able to use black clear canvas then i have to use green again but press undo instead or use eraser thats lame and annoying when i select black it just paints in white if i dont use a colour first and undo or erase This is annoying i want to use black right away please fix

I love this, I put it on the 1st page top-left of iPhone menu and this is my very daily use! Especially the playback feature is fabulous!! Only one complaint (bug?) is the brush size -- I set the size to leftmost position, then draw a line, to find its rather bolder than expected. Again I look into the brush setting screen, then find the size is shifted one mark or so to the right from the left end. This happens almost regularly. So the brush size seems to be unable to remember the leftmost position -- Isnt this a bug? Actually there are many occasions I need 1px or 2px lines... I would be happier if you could fix this, thank you!

絵はかけるけど

最近また、使おうと思い、起動して、他の方々の描いた絵を再生しようとしたり、保存しようとすると、 「Error:303:This painting could not be loaded. The painting is of a newer format than this version of Colors! support.」と出てきて見ることも、再生することもできない。お金払って買ってるので、残念です。早急に解決してもらいたいです。

still using v1.2

Liked new timeline. But after v1.3 when zooming brush is not zoomed anymore. Terrible! Also please, add layers.

Great job done!

Nice job done in this update! Finally changing photo background will not result in a crash. 5/5

Needs a iPad version!!!!!!!

Great app! I just hope that you guys come up with an iPad version!

Great!

Visit their website! And the unofficial/official forums! just google "colors forum"

AWESOME

I love it! If you ever see my pictures, vernonanne, say hi in the comments!

The "perfect" painting tool!!!!

Unlike the other apps I have downloaded over the last few years, this is the one to get if you are simply a fine artist and not a photo manipulator. Hard to find, its the only one Ill keep.

Great app!!!

This app is fantastic!! Its a great way to express yourself with drawing!! Iwould like it alittle bit more if you could delete pictures from your gallery, other than that, fantastic drawing app!!

Awesome!

Love this app so much. The galleries, the playback, the community... But I beg you, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE make an iPad version.
